TGF-β Receptors PAR-ticipate in Axon Formation

چکیده
How does a newborn neuron initiate and elaborate an axon? Using cutting-edge approaches, Yi et al. (2010) provide striking evidence that TGF-beta signaling via the Par polarity complex is required for axon formation by neocortical pyramidal neurons.

Directed Blocking of TGF-β Receptor I Binding Site Using Tailored Peptide Segments to Inhibit its Signaling Pathway
Background: TGF-β isoforms play crucial roles in diverse cellular processes. Therefore, targeting and inhibiting TGF-β signaling pathway provides a potential therapeutic opportunity. TGF-β isoforms bind and bring the receptors (TβRII and TβRI) together to form a signaling complex in an ordered manner. Objectives: Herein, an antagonistic variant of TGF-β (AnTβ)...
متن کاملIs TGF-β playing a role in ectopic neuromuscular junction formation in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans?
The neuromuscular junction (nmj) is a commonly studied synapse, used often to investigate reciprocal signaling between a motor neuron and the appropriate target muscle. In Caenorhabditis elegans, ectopic nmjs can be created by eliminating selected embryonic muscle cells that act as guideposts for the migration of post-embryonic muscles. The ectopic muscles are required to induce sprouting from ...
متن کاملFscn1 is required for the trafficking of TGF-β family type I receptors during endoderm formation
Microtubules function in TGF-β signalling by facilitating the cytoplasmic trafficking of internalized receptors and the nucleocytoplasmic shuttling of Smads. However, nothing is known about whether actin filaments are required for these processes. Here we report that zebrafish actin-bundling protein fscn1a is highly expressed in mesendodermal precursors and its expression is directly regulated ...
متن کاملDrosophila Motor Neuron Retraction during Metamorphosis Is Mediated by Inputs from TGF-β/BMP Signaling and Orphan Nuclear Receptors
Larval motor neurons remodel during Drosophila neuro-muscular junction dismantling at metamorphosis. In this study, we describe the motor neuron retraction as opposed to degeneration based on the early disappearance of β-Spectrin and the continuing presence of Tubulin. By blocking cell dynamics with a dominant-negative form of Dynamin, we show that phagocytes have a key role in this process. Im...
متن کاملPost-translational regulation of TGF-β receptor and Smad signaling.
TGF-β family signaling through Smads is conceptually a simple and linear signaling pathway, driven by sequential phosphorylation, with type II receptors activating type I receptors, which in turn activate R-Smads. Nevertheless, TGF-β family proteins induce highly complex programs of gene expression responses that are extensively regulated, and depend on the physiological context of the cells. R...
